Produced water is emerging as a key enabler across several critical sectors including carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS), artificial intelligence and data centers, geothermal energy development, critical mineral recovery from brines, aquifer reinjection, rangeland restoration, hydrogen production, and desalination. Advanced nuclear energy systems — particularly small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) — are also being evaluated for powering large‑scale desalination of produced water to support industrial and municipal water supply.
