In memoriam

Zachary Mills passed away June 5 at the age of 33. He graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in biology and chemistry before completing a research internship at the Laura Bush Institute. For the past nine years, Mills had worked in Midland, Texas for Hydrozonix. He began his career with the company as a field chemist and eventually became a completions engineer, overseeing “on-the-fly” produced water recycling projects. Mills was a valuable member of the Hydrozonix team and will be missed. He enjoyed sharing his many interests – including music, fly-fishing, camping and skiing – with his friends and family.

Career transitions

Robert “Buddy” Boysen left the produced water sector to join engineering & construction firm CDM Smith. He had previously been Water Standard’s engineering and technology director. A chemical engineer by training, Boysen has experience in the oil & gas, municipal water and wastewater treatment sectors.

Lisa Henthorne joined the board of the National Alliance for Water Innovation, a consortium of laboratories across the US selected by the Department of Energy in 2019 to head up the Energy-Water Desalination Hub. Henthorne continues in her roles as Produced Water Society president and chief technology officer and senior vice-president of Water Standard.

The Solugen team welcomed Michael Lange as its vice-president of sales. Lange most recently served as vice-president of North America sales at Hoover Ferguson and has held top-level positions at companies including Chemical Distribution Network, SolvChem, Zenith Search Partners and Univar USA since he began his career in 1992. He holds Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from East Carolina University.

Hiep Le was named Gradiant’s vice-president of process and applications engineering. He previously served as a technical service manager for Osmoflo for over a decade. Le holds a chemical engineering degree from the University of Adelaide, as well as a Master of Business Administration from the Chifley Business School at Torrens University.

James Newman has transitioned from his position as senior vice-president of region operations at Basic Energy Services into a similar role for the company’s wholly-owned subsidiary Agua Libre Midstream. He started as an area manager for plus and abandonment operations at Basic in 2008 and had at different times held positions including vice-president of completion and remedial services and vice-president of the Permian business unit. Newman holds a Bachelor of Science degree in petroleum engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.
